Projects

Ideas become useful when they survive contact with reality.

The projects below are practical efforts to explore, test, and apply concepts related to human performance, supervisory control, remote operations, training, readiness, and autonomy. Some are communities. Some are assessment frameworks. Some are decision-support concepts. All originate from operational problems.

Why these projects?

One question, several applied angles.

These projects exist to answer the same practical question: how do humans maintain effective supervision, understanding, and decision quality in increasingly complex operational environments?

Some efforts collect observations. Some organize practitioner knowledge. Some evaluate readiness. Some explore decision support. Together they form the applied side of the broader research program.

Organizations & Communities

The central project.

Remote Warrior is the central project from which much of the research program draws operational insight. It is positioned first because the rest of the work depends on the practitioner knowledge it gathers and sustains.

Remote Warrior

Primary Purpose

Knowledge Collection & Practitioner Community

Remote Warrior is a research-informed community and public understanding effort focused on the human side of remote operations. Its purpose is to make remote warfare operators, instructors, and crews more visible, understood, and supported, while building a durable body of practitioner knowledge that feeds the broader research program.

Mission
Make the human side of remote warfare visible, understood, and improvable.
Community
A space for current and former remote warfare practitioners, including operators, sensors, instructors, and evaluators.
Writing
Practitioner-facing essays, field notes, and commentary developed inside the community.
Research support
Operational insight, interviews, and case material feeding the research program.
Practitioner voices
A platform for the people who actually fly, supervise, and instruct in remote operations.
Assessment & Readiness Programs

Applied readiness work.

Frameworks built to evaluate operational capability, training maturity, supervisory practice, and organizational readiness in domains where remote and supervised operations are becoming routine.

Project

Public Safety UAS Readiness Assessment (PSLU)

Primary Purpose

Organizational Readiness Assessment

A structured readiness framework designed to help public safety organizations evaluate operational capability, training maturity, supervisory practices, and organizational readiness for UAS operations.

Readiness assessment
Structured evaluation of operational capability across crew, supervision, and program dimensions.
Organizational benchmarking
Comparison across agencies and program maturity stages.
Human-performance considerations
Attention, workload, supervision quality, and decision-making under uncertainty.
Operational improvement planning
Translating findings into concrete training, supervision, and program changes.
Decision Support & Research Tools

Concepts and tools.

Frameworks and structured tools designed to study, support, and improve decision-making in complex operational environments, and to translate that work into practical use.

PARALLAX

Primary Purpose

Decision Quality Exploration

A framework exploring decision quality, prioritization stability, conflict assessment, and supervisory decision-making in complex operational environments. PARALLAX treats the operator's representation of the situation as the central object of study.

Decision consistency
How stable a crew's decisions are across handoffs, interruptions, and shift changes.
Prioritization
How attention and intervention are allocated when demands exceed capacity.
Representation
What the operator actually believes about the situation, and where that belief drifts from reality.
Human judgment under uncertainty
How judgment behaves when information is incomplete, late, or contested.

Transition Navigator

Primary Purpose

Transition Readiness Support

A structured resource platform intended to assist veterans transitioning from military service into civilian life. Designed around the realities of post-service navigation rather than generic transition checklists.

Navigation
A practical path through the steps, decisions, and timelines of transition.
Resources
Vetted, organized resources oriented to the actual problems veterans encounter.
Readiness
Preparation for the cognitive and emotional load of leaving service.
Practical support
Tools that produce concrete next steps rather than abstract advice.
Active Development

Current lines of work.

Ongoing efforts that generate the material feeding everything above. These are not completed projects; they are the continuing work of collecting, observing, and refining the inputs the research program depends on.

Project

Human Performance Data Collection

Primary Purpose

Human Performance Observation

Ongoing collection of qualitative and observational material on attention, fatigue, workload, and supervision across long-duration remote operations.

Project

Supervisory Control Framework Development

Primary Purpose

Framework Development

Continued development and refinement of the four-dimension supervisory control quality framework through instructor and evaluator practice.

Applied, not abstract.

The purpose of these projects is not to produce theory alone. They exist to test ideas against operational reality, improve readiness, support practitioners, and better understand how humans supervise increasingly complex systems.
